History

The ACT Development (Acting by Churches Together for Development) alliance focusing on long-term development was formed in February 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya with 55 organisations.[1][2][3] ACT Development was closely associated with ACT International, an alliance of organisations working on humanitarian aid. The two alliances were planning to become a single alliance in early 2010, with a combined membership of 165 organisations.[4][5][6] The assembly of ACT Development agreed in May 2009 that the alliance would unify with the ACT International alliance which works on humanitarian assistance,[7] to form the ACT Alliance.

The membership of the alliance is defined by an relation to the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation combined with a mandate to work on humanitarian assistance and/or development issues.[8]

National and Regional Forums

The member organisations of the alliance are encouraged to coordinate their work together on a national and regional level by meeting in forums.[9][10][11]

Members

The ACT Alliance is composed of over 100 member working in more than 125 countries.[12]
